With E3 just around the corner there's a lot of buzz around Nintendo's new 3D handheld gaming device. If that sort of thing floats your boat, check out this G4TV clip of the Hitachi Wooo -- the world's first commercial glasses-free 3D cell phone, sold only in Japan, introduced last year. RazPR client MasterImage 3D developed the auto-stereoscopic 3D display technology -- and a unique manufacturing process that keeps costs ultra-low for consumers.

So, when will we see glasses-free 3D on TVs and monitors? Not until the tech issues around resolution and viewing angles are resolved. Consumers are used to HD. With 3D, that resolution is split across right- and left-eye images, so viewers see 1/2 resolution. Every time another viewing angle is added (so viewers can see the screen without having to sit directly in front of it) the resolution is split further. You get into fuzzy territory pretty quickly. MasterImage and other experts predict that solving those problems may happen within five years.
